Miami & the Florida Keys!

Earlier this summer we took a trip down to Miami and the Florida Keys! We had a nice time away from home, even though it rained most of our trip. But - a rainy day at the beach is better than any day at home and at the office! I had to remind myself of that a few times. However, with the rain, we took advantage of some things that we may not have if we had had the expected sunny warm Miami weather! We went to the Miami Seaquarium, to the mall, a state park, the turtle hospital, dolphin research center, and much more! To see some pictures from our trip click on the photo below!

This was a busy trip - in one week we stayed in 3 different hotels, in 4 different room. YIKES! Our longest stay in one room was for 3 nights, the rest were just 1 or 2 nights. We also did a lot of driving - correction - LOU did a lot of driving! I did a lot of navagating and programming the cell phone GPS!

When we arrived in Miami on April 28th, it was overcast and 70 degrees. I couldn't believe it. It was warmer back home than it was in Florida! But regardless, we were on vacation and we were going to take advantage of it. So we got settled into our hotel and went for a walk and to find some dinner. Day 2 was even more rainy, so we went to the Miami Seaquarium. We had a good time, despite the rain - though we both agree that it would have been even better if it hadn't been so rainy. Day 3 - we were supposed to go on a snorkel adventure, but that got cancelled because of the rain and wind. So instead we spent the day walking a mall and down at the "Deering Estate at Cutler". Again, would have been even better had it not been so windy!

Day 4 - weather started to get better, but we also started our drive down to Marathon! We would be in the same hotel for the rest of our stay - but we did have to change rooms part way through! We didn't really do much today since it ended up being a driving day. We did make a few shopping stops, but nothing really note worthy! Day 5 - we decided to go to the Turtle Hospital and then down to Key West for the afternoon! We made it back to our hotel in Marathon for the nightly sunset cannon blast. The sunset view from our hotel was wonderful, though it would have been even better without the cannon blast :-)

Day 6 Started out at the Dolphin Research Center, where we got to interact with a dolphin. Oh Man that was great! Now I'm just itching to go swimming with them! After we left the Dolphin Research Center we went back up North to Key Largo to John Pennekamp State Park to go snorkeling. The waters were still a bit choppy and weren't very clear, so this wasn't the best snorkel excursion we've done. Days 7 & 8 we hung around Marathon island and found a REAL beach, spent the mornings there, went back to the hotel for a small lunch and then to Starfish for some wonderful snorkeling at Sombrero Lighthouse!

Day 9 - brought us home again - back to reality.
